Douglas Attends Critical CARICOM Council Talks

BASSETERRE — The Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Llewellyn Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Economic Development and Investment, took his seat Tuesday at the 6th Special Meeting of the Community Council of Ministers — a key gathering held as part of the 50th Regular Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government.

Ministers responsible for Foreign Affairs from across the Caribbean Community convened to engage in high-level discussions on critical matters affecting the region, including the operations of the CARICOM Secretariat and pressing issues shaping the Community’s future direction.

The Community Council of Ministers is one of CARICOM’s principal organs, responsible for strategic planning and the development of cooperation in key areas. Its deliberations feed directly into the decisions made by Heads of Government, making Tuesday’s session a vital precursor to the summit’s highest-level proceedings.

Dr. Douglas, a towering figure in Caribbean diplomacy and a former Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, brings considerable regional experience to the table — an asset as the Federation assumes the chairmanship of CARICOM under Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew.

With Saint Kitts and Nevis at the centre of this week’s regional diplomacy, the Federation’s presence and voice in every layer of the summit — from ministerial councils to Heads of Government discussions — underscores the twin-island nation’s commitment to shaping a stronger, more unified Caribbean Community.
