Forty-Six Deportees arrive in Jamaica from the US

Forty-six Jamaican deportees on the afternoon of April 21 arrived at Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport from the United States.

The group landed shortly after 1 o’clock on board a special charter flight.

They were met at the airport by a contingent of police personnel and health workers and left in a convoy of vehicles with police outriders.

The deportees were transported to a Government quarantine facility in New Kingston where it is expected that they will remain for 14 days before their release.

Last Tuesday, The Gleaner first reported that within “a week or two”, the Jamaican Government would have to accept dozens of deportees from the US.

The disclosure by Minister of National Security Dr Horace Chang came days after US President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order that imposes visa sanctions on countries that refuse to accept the deportation of their citizens, even amid the global new coronavirus pandemic.
