International Youth Day Radio Programme

(ZIZ News) — The local observance of International Youth Day saw a panel of young persons engaging the public on several issues that challenge the youth of today and possible solutions to those issues.

Klieon John hosted the sessions on WINNFM’s “Voices” and gave a summary of the programme.

“We talked about visibility of youth projects and youth developmental activities. We talked about more support. We talked about parenting, which is a huge issue. We also talked a bit about the school system and about possible changes within the delivery methods we really need to start making. What I really sense coming out is that there should be a bit more partnership between education sector and parents and we need to go back to certain practices like PTA,” he said.

The panel included former President of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College’s Student Association, Abigail Liburd and Public Relations Officer of the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association, Dennis Mccall Jr.

Meanwhile, in delivering the International Youth Day address, Minister of Youth the Honourable Shawn Richards encouraged young persons to take action and seek out solutions to youth-related issues and concerns.

“We must talk about individual and collective actions designed to identify and address issues of public concern. Each youth must ask him or herself what can I do by myself or in a group to find and fix problems in my community or country,” he said.

Tuesday and Wednesday’s activity saw the culmination of International Youth Day, which is celebrated worldwide on August 12th.
