BASSETERRE – Mansion resident Mother Rubilet Belle, has become the first recipient of the “Adopt an Elder” initiative launched by the Department of Youth Empowerment on St. Kitts.

Pointing out that “the care of the elderly is not a burden, but a responsibility of love”, Mother Rubilet Belle was visited by staff who shared scriptures and sang hymns.

“Mother Belle offered inspiring words and expressed genuine joy and excitement at having us in her presence. The change begins here, and we look forward to continuing this journey as we intentionally bridge the generational gap,” the Department of Youth said on Tuesday.

The “Adopt an Elder” initiative is being observed under the theme “Building Bridges Between Generations.”

This project was inspired by the importance of fostering meaningful relationships between youth and the elderly, ensuring that our rich culture, values, and wisdom are carried forward, the Department of Youth said.
