Government Launches Diaspora Heritage Program
BASSETERRE: The government of St. Kitts and Nevis has unveiled an ambitious one-week program designed to reconnect diaspora youth and descendants with their cultural roots and national heritage. The Diaspora Heritage Emergence (DHE) 2026 program will run from July 18 to 25, offering young nationals scattered across the globe an opportunity to immerse themselves in the islands’ governance, culture, and economic landscape through a combination of educational components, cultural experiences, and tours.
Spearheaded by the Regional Integration and Diaspora Unit under the government, the initiative represents a strategic effort to deepen connections between diaspora communities and the twin-island nation. The program, which welcomes participants from diaspora organizations across the globe as well as individuals applying directly, promises to be transformative, said officials overseeing the initiative.
“It’s going to be an exciting program. It’s going to be a program of a lifetime. You come back with so much information,” said Diaspora Ambassador, Her Excellency Dr. Christine Walwyn. The program features daily educational sessions covering governance structures, cultural heritage, and economic development, complemented by tours and immersive cultural activities throughout both St. Kitts and Nevis.
The application process is accessible to all eligible participants. Those affiliated with St. Kitts-Nevis diaspora organizations can apply through their respective organizations, while unaffiliated individuals may submit applications directly through the government website. Officials emphasized that all program details and application materials are available online.
The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening ties with its diaspora, recognizing the cultural, economic, and social contributions of nationals living abroad. By combining educational enrichment with heritage exploration and leadership development, DHE 2026 aims to foster deeper engagement and national pride among diaspora youth while simultaneously offering them valuable insights into contemporary life in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Interested participants are encouraged to visit the government website for complete program information, including eligibility requirements and the application deadline. Early interest has been noted, and officials are optimistic about attracting participants from diaspora communities worldwide.
