23 Primary School Girls Honored at Excellence Awards
BASSETERRE — Twenty-three primary school girls were recognized for their contributions to their homes, schools and communities on Thursday, October 8, at the Department of Gender Affairs’ annual Girls in Excellence Award ceremony.
The event was held at the Earle Clarke Community Centre in Newtown, ahead of the International Day of the Girl Child, observed globally on October 11.
The awardees represented primary schools across St. Kitts. Their achievements were recognized in areas including academics, leadership, resilience, creativity, community service and determination.
Minister of State with responsibility for Gender Affairs, Hon. Isalean Phillip, addressed the students and their parents. She emphasized that supporting girls requires more than financial resources, and she stressed the importance of giving them time, mentorship, encouragement and opportunities to help them reach their full potential.
This year’s International Day of the Girl Child is being observed under the theme “Investing in Girls’ Rights.”
Governor General Dame Marcella Liburd also attended the ceremony, along with parents and teachers.
