South African prosecutors call Pistorius sentence ‘shockingly light’

Johannesburg, (AFP) — South African prosecutors described the five-year sentence handed to Paralympian Oscar Pistorius for killing his girlfriend as “shockingly light and inappropriate” in appeal papers filed Tuesday.

“The sentence of five years imprisonment… for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp in the circumstances of this case is shockingly light, inappropriate and would not have been imposed by any reasonable court,” the National Prosecuting Authority said in papers filed in the High Court.
