ZIZ Newsroom…July 20, 20 – Parts of downtown Basseterre are still covered by mud following a night of heavy rainfall caused by a thunderstorm.

One of the worst hit areas is at the ferry terminal and bus stop at the Bay Front.

Bulldozers and other heavy equipment were seen removing mud from the roads.

Vehicle traffic was forced to use alternative routes to enter Basseterre as the Bay Road, Liverpool Row and parts of Central Street were filled with mud.

Other areas around the island, including Old Road, were badly affected by mud in the streets.

According to the Senior Meteorological Officer, Maurice Mills at the Met Office, there were 4.17 inches of rain in St.Kitts between 8pm to 8am.

He says there is a still a possibility for more thunderstorms today due to unstable atmospheric conditions being caused by a tropical wave.

He says the tropical wave is currently moving west away from our federation.

Mills says small crafts including fishermen are advised to stay ashore because of rough waters.
