Big Wins for Newtown, Dieppe Bay, Village and St. Paul’s

The opening week of the 2026-’27 SKNFA/National Bank Group Premier League season is in the books, and defending champions MFCR Old Road United Jets find themselves outside the top four for the first time in recent memory, sitting seventh after Sunday’s stunning 2-0 defeat to Honda Newtown United.

Four teams share the top of the table on three points apiece after one match, separated only by goal difference. TGE Dieppe Bay Eagles lead the way after their 5-1 rout of Lodge Patriots on Saturday, giving them a league-best +4 goal difference. Rams Village Superstars sit second on the same goal-difference mark following their 4-0 win over SKELEC Garden Hotspurs in Sunday’s Basseterre Derby, while St. Paul’s United (3-0 winners over Conaree FC) and Newtown United (2-0 winners over Old Road) round out the group at third and fourth.

Cayon Rockets and St. Peters FC sit fifth and sixth with one point each after playing to a scoreless draw in Friday’s season opener, the only match of the weekend without a winner.

Old Road’s defeat is the headline of the week. The Jets went unbeaten through all of last season en route to the title, then opened this campaign with a loss, leaving them seventh with zero points and a -2 goal difference. Conaree FC occupy eighth after their 3-0 loss to St. Paul’s, while Lodge Patriots and Garden Hotspurs sit ninth and tenth, both winless and without a goal scored — Lodge conceded five in their loss to Dieppe Bay, and Garden Hotspurs conceded four in the derby defeat to Village.

Old Road will look to bounce back quickly in Week Two, while Dieppe Bay Eagles — who finished last season second-to-last — will aim to prove their opening statement was no fluke.
