Chain thief gets 9-month sentence
Kingston, Jamaica — A Kingston man was slapped with a nine month prison sentence for stealing a gold chain from a house.
Dwayne Williams was given the sentence when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
According to the accused man, who had initiallydenied the allegation, the chain was given to him by a little boy to be sold.
It is alleged that the accused went inside the complainant’s home and stole a 10-karat gold chain valued at J$300,000.
The complainant told the court that the chain was given to him by his now deceased father and that Williams stole it from off his dresser after he went to get a drink of water from him.
“How many times you go prison?” Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked Williams.
“First time,” Williams said before he was sentenced.
