Chamber of Industry and Commerce prepares for introduction of VAT

ZIZ News…Aug. 16, 2010 – The Chamber of Industry and Commerce in St. Kitts and Nevis is organizing a series of workshops on both islands to prepare its members for the introduction of Value Added Tax later this year.

A release issued to the media stated that in preparation for the imminent introduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) in the Federation on November 1, 2010, the St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce will be staging a private sector VAT preparation exercise for its members from Monday, August 16 to Wednesday, August 18, 2010.

Executive Director of the Chamber, Ms Wendy Phipps, indicated that this exercise consists of (i) a series of three workshops geared at educating the business community on the major provisions outlined in the recently passed VAT legislation; and (ii) in-depth, private sector consultations with the aim of finalizing a comprehensive position paper on the introduction of VAT in the country.
