CIU Chair Touts Role In Stapleton Homes
BASSETERRE — Nineteen families moved into new homes at the Stapleton Housing Development last Thursday, funded through St. Kitts and Nevis’ Citizenship by Investment program, Citizenship Investment Unit (CIU) Chairman Calvin St. Juste said.
St. Juste said the project reflects the CIU’s commitment to funding initiatives that directly benefit citizens, framing the CBI program as a driver of tangible national development rather than an abstract revenue stream.
“The Citizenship Investment Unit, or CBI as we affectionately call it, is proud to fund and finance the development of these homes, the Stapleton homes,” St. Juste said. “I want to be clear of what this means, because it is easily said and rarely seen. The CBI program invites people from around the world to invest in St. Kitts and Nevis and, in return, to share in our citizenship. That investment is not something abstract that sits on a balance sheet. It becomes roads. It becomes schools. And this evening, it becomes homes.”
St. Juste credited several partners for carrying the project from concept to completion, saying the CIU could not have delivered the development alone. He singled out the National Housing Corporation, which is marking 30 years of operation this year, for the experience and oversight he said turned the project into a functioning neighborhood. He also credited the Ministry of Housing and Human Settlement for providing direction, and an investment partner, Client Referrals, for what he described as an unprecedented commitment.
“We could not have delivered this alone, and we did not,” St. Juste said. “The National Housing Corporation, which this year marks 30 years of raising standards, brought the experience and the stewardship that turn a plan into a neighborhood. The Ministry of Housing and Human Settlement provided the direction and the will, and our investment partner, Client Referrals, did something no other partner has ever done in the history of our citizenship program. They put the funds to build these homes before the first foundation was laid.”
The Stapleton handover adds to a list of CBI-funded housing initiatives across the federation, as the government continues to point to the program as a source of financing for infrastructure and social development. Nineteen families now hold keys to homes in the development, with officials framing the project as evidence that CBI proceeds are reaching everyday citizens.
