Claxton Features as West Indies Women Open ODI
BASSETERRE — St. Kitts and Nevis cricketer Jahzara Claxton is part of the West Indies Women’s squad as the team opened its ICC Women’s Championship campaign against Ireland Women on Friday, in the first of a three-match One Day International series at Bready Cricket Club in Northern Ireland.
Captain Hayley Matthews won the toss and elected to have the West Indies bowl first as the regional side began its bid for points in the championship, which forms part of the qualification pathway for global 50-over tournaments.
Claxton’s inclusion in the touring squad marks another milestone for St. Kitts and Nevis cricket, with the Federation’s cricketing community rallying behind the local talent as she represents the twin-island nation on the regional stage.
The second and third ODIs of the series are expected to follow in the coming days, with West Indies Women looking to build early momentum in their championship campaign.
