Dominica opposition political leader ‘appalled’ at PM’s comments

Roseau, Dominica — Lennox Linton, leader of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) in Dominica, said he is appalled at Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit’s comments at the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) convention on Monday.

Linton said, “The prime minister walked onto a public platform and said that (Lennox Linton) has not worked for 14 years, when he knows this is a blatant lie.”

He further remarked that he always believed that one of the things government needs to do and must do to is to ensure that the people know better.

“This Labour Party government knows that there are a number of people that do not know better about many important areas of Dominica’s affairs,” said Linton.

He said that the Labour Party promised an international airport in the year 2000, and then changed their minds and made it look like a United Workers Party reckless suggestion.

“Because all of a sudden, last September, I said in my acceptance speech of the United Workers Party, that we will construct an international airport because we cannot continue to operate as the only Caribbean country without an international airport,” he stressed.

He explained that most of the projects that the PM made mention of were already suggested by the United Workers Party. The plans for the upcoming sports facility in Stock Farm, he said, was something already suggested by UWP, for the Windsor Park Stadium.

Linton is of the view that all the projects that the prime minister has stated that will be undertaken soon, are the same projects that he promised 14 years ago.

He asked the question: how will he, the PM, complete these projects within a year when he already had 14 years.

The UWP leader strongly believes that change is a must. Dominica needs to do better, he said.
