Emmy-winning journalist headlines 28th PM’s Lecture Series
BASSETERRE — Emmy Award-winning journalist and executive producer Jego Armstrong delivered the 28th installment of the Prime Minister’s Independence Lecture Series on Monday night, drawing a crowd of government, diplomatic and business leaders to the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.
Governor-General Dame Marcella Liburd and Acting Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley were among those in attendance, alongside members of the Federal Cabinet, the Diplomatic and Consular Corps, representatives of the business community and students.
Drawing on his international career in journalism and media, Armstrong pushed the audience to reflect on the role storytelling, media and journalism play in shaping society, offering what organizers described as an engaging and insightful take on issues relevant to the times.
The lecture is a signature feature of the Federation’s annual Independence celebrations, held each year to showcase accomplished sons and daughters of St. Kitts and Nevis and give the nation a chance to learn from their experience and achievements. This year’s installment continued that tradition, marking 28 years of a series built around celebrating excellence and the contributions of nationals to national development at home and abroad.
The lecture forms part of the broader slate of programming marking St. Kitts and Nevis’ 43rd anniversary of Independence, which runs through October with events across government, sports, arts and community life.
