Federation’s men encouraged to consider a nursing profession

ZIZ NEWS…15 May 2010 – The Secretary of the Caribbean Nurses Organisation, Nevisian Roxane Brookes-Jeffers is encouraging the Federation’s men to look at nursing as a possible career option.

Mrs Brookes-Jeffers says that it is a myth that nursing is more suited to the female gender and outlined that there are many males who occupy senior nursing positions.

International Nurses Day was celebrated earlier this week and according to Mrs Brookes-Jeffers, who is also a nurse that specialises in intensive care, it is timely to inform men in St Kitts and Nevis to consider the nursing profession.

The Secretary of the Caribbean Nurses Association says there are many qualities that are required in being nurse. She says that many members of the public have the notion that nurses are often just doctors’ assistants. She says this is totally untrue and today’s nurse has to be highly educated.

This year’s International Nurses Day which took place on May 12th placed an emphasis on chronic diseases and was an opportunity to thank hard working nurses in the Federation and across the globe.
