Fire destroys section of shopping plaza in Ocho Rios

Kingston, Jamaica — Fire of unknown origin Friday morning destroyed sections of a shopping complex at James Avenue in Ocho Rios, St Ann.

Reports are that around 1:30 am fire was seen coming from the upstairs of the two-storey complex and the fire department was summoned.

Firefighters from the Ocho Rios and St Ann’s Bay fire stations responded and extinguished the blaze.

A barber shop and a hair salon were completely destroyed; damage to both shops and their contents is estimated at $10 million. It is unknown if the complex was insured.

No one was injured in the incident.
