Fourth police officer in a month up for dismissal

ZIZ Newsroom, Aug 1, 2010, Basseterre – Another police officer is up for firing following an internal disciplinary matter.

ZIZ understands that the officer, constable Alister Huggins has been recommended for dismissal.

Although details surrounding the matter are sketchy, a senior police official has confirmed that the dismissal procedure is underway and the paperwork must be sent to the Police Service Commissioner.

In 2007 Huggins was convicted of larceny involving a member of the Bobo Shanty Rastafarian group. However, the senior official said this move to dismiss him came out of a separate, unconnected incident in 2010.

This makes the fourth officer recommended for dismissal in the past thirty days. Two male officers from the Nevis division and one male and one female from the St.Kitts division.
