Basseterre, January 3, 2024 (ZIZ Newsroom) — Amassing a total of 669 points, Ultra Carnival dubbed The Wonders of Africa, featured sections including Okavango, Beneath the Red Sea, Victoria Falls, Saharan Sunset and The Great Serengeti.
Newcomer Novali placed second for troupe of the year, portraying Primal Desires, with sections including Panthera, Imperial Grevy and Violet Starling.
Ultra Carnival also won the Spirit of Carnival award and the King of the Bands award.
Queen of the bands Went to ZUs carnival which showcased Soca Warriors with sections including Frontline Fighters, Bouyon Tribe, Zouk Posse and Kaiso Clan.
Section of the year was awarded to Luxe Carnival portraying Le Carnival with Rhythms of the Caribbean with sections including Merengue, Zouk, Salsa and Calypso.
The award for the earliest Mas Band launched also went to Luxe Carnival. Romaine Belgrove was adjudged the winner for the individual Mas Segment for Jouvert.
In congratulating the winners, Chair of the National Carnival Committee Shannon Hawley spoke of the impact of Sugar Mas and thanked those persons and businesses who contributed to Sugar Mas 52.
All of our photographers and videographers, who get our product out there, and we know we have had so many visitors, and we have spoken to so many small businesses, and entrepreneurs. Whose sales have quadrupled over the past two weeks? And that is what sugar mass is about.
It’s the largest national carnival event. And we had an economic impact assessment done last year.
The intention is to do it this year as well. To show just how large scale an impact that sugar mass has had. On the economy of St. Kitts and Nevis. And with the support of the federal cabinet.
Because we couldn’t do it without their support. Yes, with the 100% support of the minister who is responsible for the national carnival.
The Honorable Samuel Duggins and the federal cabinet. To ensure that sugar mass continues to grow on an annual basis.
General prizes range from $25,000 down to $12,000.
This year’s carnival celebrations were guided by the theme “All in with your crew for Sugar Mas 52”.
