Lester Bird to be named Antigua National Hero
ST JOHN’S, Antigua, (CMC) – Former Antigua prime minister, Lester Bird, 76, was sworn in as a senior minister in the new Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ALP) administration Friday with Prime Minister Gaston Browne indicating that his administration would name him the island’s sixth national hero.
Bird has been ill and even hospitalised following the June 12 victory of the ALP over the United Progressive Party (UPP) of former Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer.
