Local Red Cross assists fire victims

ZIZ News…February 15, 2010 – The St. Kitts Nevis Red Cross Society has come to the assistance of a family who lost two of their relatives in a recent house fire. During the evening hours of Saturday 13th February, a fire broke out at a dwelling house in Sandy Point.
The house was occupied by quite a large family consisting of 4 adults and some 20 children ranging in age from 15 years down to a few months old.
The fire caused extensive damage to the interior of the house and as a result two of the children lost their lives.
The district members of the St.Kitts and Nevis Red Cross visited the scene on Sunday morning to assess the damage and to determine what help could be offered to the victims.
A number of relief items were distributed to the survivors. These items included 5 kitchen sets, 5 family kits, 4 tarpaulins, 2 mosquito nets and a bale of blankets. The Red Cross volunteers also collected information relating to the actual losses with the hope that further assistance would be forthcoming from members of the local community and the general public at large.
