No new or increased taxes, says Dominica PM

RooseveltSkerrit-1ROSEAU, Dominica — Ahead of delivering the national budget for the 2014/2015 financial year on Wednesday, Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said that government will not introduce new taxes or increase on taxes.

Skerrit told DBS Radio that the government is, however, reviewing its present tax structure and its impact on employees and the private sector.

“There’ll always be a justification if we were to look at it, for there to be either new taxes or increases in taxes, because the cost of running the state always increases, and one has to find resources to implement those measures. This is why we have gone through our foreign policy to seek to minimize the burden on the taxpaying public.

“So if we are to remove the grants we would be receiving in this upcoming financial year surely there would be a case for imposing tax,” he explained.
