Premier breaks ground for new Police Station

Premier of Nevis, Hon. Joseph Parry

NEVIS…JUNE 6, 2010 – “The star of the Police is rising,” that was the sentiment echoed by Premier of Nevis, Hon. Joseph Parry when he gave brief remarks at the ground breaking ceremony for the Cotton Ground Police Station on Wednesday afternoon.

“The Nevis Island Administration remains fully committed to supporting the Police Force. Evidence of this is emulated with the recent handing over of five Police vehicles, opening of police barracks in Butlers and the ground breaking of police barracks in Bath Plain,” commented Premier Parry.

The Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) Government acquired the Colquhoun Estate property, with plans for the Police Station one year ago. The existing police outpost had been relocated from a dilapidated building elsewhere in the village to the Ossie Guest House as a temporary measure since 2007.

According to Premier Parry the Government will outfit the new Police Station with the necessary resources to ensure that residents are well served.

The new facility when constructed will include features that were non-existent in the previous police station: work stations with computer access for offices, adequate sleeping quarters, a full kitchen and bathroom facilities.

The Cotton Ground police station will be one of three new modern facilities for officers stationed in the Nevis Police Division under the stewardship of the Hon. Joseph Parry and his Administration. New Police Barracks are under construction at Bath Plain and another was completed through the collaboration of the NIA and businessman Mr. Ken Evelyn, was recently handed over and commissioned in the village of Butlers.

“The completion of this new police Station will help the Police employ the most efficient use of the island’s resources and will enhance the effectiveness in responding to the needs of the citizens of the St. Thomas’ area,” stated the Premier.

In conclusion, Hon. Joseph Parry stated that the completion of the new barracks and police stations for additional Police staff will position the Police to tackle law enforcement and public safety challenges of the 21st century.
