Prime Minister to attend funeral for the late David Thompson

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA; NOVEMBER 2, 2010 – Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas and Foreign Minister Hon. Peter David will represent Grenada at the Funeral Wednesday, of the late David Thompson, Former Prime Minister of Barbados.

Prime Minister Thomas considered Mr. Thompson a friend and partner in strengthening the regional integration process.

“We had a very good relationship with Mr. Thompson over the years. He was a man of few words but great wisdom. His contribution to regional development will be greatly missed,” Prime Minister Thomas said Monday morning just prior to the start of his weekly Cabinet meeting.

During a Parliamentary meeting on Friday, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Mr. Thompson, describing him as a man of his word, who was steadfast in his support for the good governance agenda.

“Today, we mourn with the people of Barbados, the passing of a committed regionalist, a visionary and a leader, struck down by illness in the prime of his life. David Thompson was a friend to Grenada and to my party, the National Democratic Congress,” the Prime Minister told Parliament.
