ZIZ News…July 6, 2010 – The Sandy Point High School will soon have a new name.

At its meeting held on 31st May, 2010, Cabinet reaffirmed a previous decision that the Sandy Point High School be renamed in honour of Hon. Charles E. Mills, CMG, JP.

The Hon. Charles E. Mills was a renowned Educator and Parliamentarian.

The Hon. Charles E. Mills was a former teacher, Education Officer and Chief Education Officer. He was first elected to the St. Kitts – Nevis – Anguilla National Assembly in 1975 as the St. Kitts- Nevis Labour Party Parliamentary Representative for the Electoral District 5, at the time stretching from Sandy Point to Dieppe Bay. He was re-elected for the same district in elections held in 1980 and 1984.

During 1975 to 1980, the Hon. Charles Mills served as Minister of Communications, Works and Public Utilities and as Minister of Finance in St. Kitts – Nevis Labour Party Administrations headed by three past Premiers.

In 1984, the Hon. Charles E. Mills was appointed Leader of her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, a position he held until 1989 when he demitted office.

The Ceremony for the Renaming of the Sandy Point High School will be held later this year during the month of September.
