Special two week Blood Donor Drive in progress

ZIZ News…15 06 2010 – The UWI, Open Campus, St. Kitts & Nevis is collaborating with the Blood Bank at the Joseph N. France General Hospital, Basseterre, St Kitts, to promote a special two- week Blood Donor Drive, which started on Monday June 14, 2010. June 14 was designated as World Blood Bank Day.

All able-bodied, healthy persons between the ages of 18 – 65 years are being urged to come out and unstintingly donate blood. The Bank will be open daily from Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00a.m. and 2:00p.m.

We at UWI Open, along with our sister campuses hold fast to the knowledge that an adequate supply of blood is indispensable for the support and maintenance of the health needs of our citizens, visitors and the region as a whole. We believe that the significance of a blood drive at this cricketing season time is heightened when we remember that the renowned West Indies cricketer, Sir Frank Worrell, has been internationally recognised as a hero for being the first person to move and give blood to Mr. Nari Contractor, the captain of the Indian cricket team when, in 1962 during a match that was played in Barbados, Mr. Contractor suffered a fractured skull. The donation of blood saved the life of Mr. Contractor

Please make sure to support this blood drive and remember: the life you save may be your own, through the simple but critically important donation of a pint of blood.
