St Kitts & Nevis to participate in the Special Olympics Latin America Games

ZIZ News…February 13, 2010 – St Kitts & Nevis will join a number of English Caribbean countries next week to participate for the first time in the Special Olympics Latin America Games which will be held in Puerto Rico.

Special Olympics athletes from St Kitts & Nevis will compete in Athletics, swimming, bocce, football and tennis. The games will take place over the period February 18th – 27th. Other countries participating at the games will be Jamaica, Bahamas, Cayman Islands, St Martin and Dominica.

The board members athlete coaches and parents of Special Olympics St Kitts & Nevis are conducting a number of fundraising efforts to meet the cost for the games. These will includes selling of tags, printing of a 2010 calendar which will contain ads from businesses and a valentine sale. Some businesses have also been asked to sponsor the event.

All are encouraged to assist the Special Olympics athletes who are expected to perform well in Puerto Rico as preparations are in high gear as athletes are training daily and conducting themselves for the games.

On Wednesday 10th February a group of parents, teachers and Special Olympics athletes left the Federation for Barbados in order to obtain US Visa that will enable them to attend the games.
