ZIZ NEWS…18 May 2010 – The goal of the international organization, Eno-Environment Online Schools, is to plant 100 million trees by the year 2017; and on Friday 21st May 2010, schools in St Kitts will join their counterparts around the world in commemorating, the tree planting day.

Eno-Environment Online, is a global virtual school network for sustainable development, where schools around the world study environmental topics and share what they’ve learnt with their communities. Tree planting has been one of the most popular activities since 2004.

According to the National Coordinator for the Eno Programme in St Kitts, Mrs Jacqulin Christopher, schools in the Federation have decided to get on board with the tree planting event.

This year the issue of food security is underscored. Mrs Christopher says they are working with the Ministry of Agriculture.

Last year the event empowered over 5,000 schools in 127 countries. Mrs Christopher was happy to report that already, almost all the schools in St Kitts have confirmed their commitment.

The long term tree planting campaign will finish in 2017.
