The Fire Officers of St. Kitts and Nevis are the Bravest

ZIZ News…April 10, 2010 – Retired Canadian Fire Chief Bob Riches gave high praises to the Fire Officers who responded to the scene of a serious fire which gutted out the home of the Burt and Pennyfeather family of Sandy Point and where two (2) children perished.

The St. Kitts & Nevis Fire and Rescue Service once again asked for the assistance of Fire Chief Robert Riches (Retired, Toronto Fire Department) to assist with the investigation.

Chief Riches, who resides in St. Kitts, told the Deputy Prime Minister, Honorable Sam Condor that in all of his 35 years of active service he had never seen a more courageous attempt by fire officers who risked their own lives to save others.

The firemen of the Sandy Point Station positioned themselves before the raging inferno so that occupants in the other rooms of the house could escape the fire. Chief Riches stated, “In my opinion, the fire officers of St. Kitts and Nevis are the bravest”.
