Tourism Awards 2010 highlights achievements in the Industry

A wide cross section of the Corporate Community graced the historical World Heritage Site, Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park for the 10th Annual Tourism Awards and Banquet. Tourism Minister Hon. Richard Skerritt in his opening address said despite the challenges with the downturn in the economy there is a bright future ahead for the industry. He spoke of the growth in cruise ship arrivals and projects such as the redevelopment of the Fairview Inn which will be seeing its first batch of guests from the cruise ship today Sunday Oct. 24. Minister Skerritt said it is projects like this the cabinet will not hesitate to support. Airlift was another area of concern that was addressed by the Tourism Minister. To a rousing round of applause Minister Skerrit said the Government of St. Kitts Nevis and the Nevis Island Administration have never had such a good working relationship in all areas including tourism. Other officials addressing the ceremony were Chairman of the Board of Directors of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority Alfonsa Ogarro and Senator Allen M. Chastanet, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation of St. Lucia. The Governor General Sir Cuthbert Sebastian, Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas and other government officials attended the Awards and Banquet.
