Tropical Storm Cristobal expected to move away from Bahamas tonight

TropicalDepression21Jul2014KINGSTON, Jamaica—The Meteorological (MET) Service of Jamaica says the centre of Tropical Storm Cristobal was located near latitude 24.5 degrees north and longitude 72.8 degrees west at 4:00 am Monday and is expected to move away from the Bahamas tonight.

Cristobal is moving towards the north near six kilometres per hour. A turn towards the north –northeast at a slight faster forward speed is expected later today. A north northeastward motion with a further increase in forwards speed is expected on Tuesday the Met Service said.

On the forecast track, the centre of Cristobal is forecast to move away from the Bahamas through tonight.

Maximum sustained winds are near 85 kilometres per hour, with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours and Cristobal could become a Hurricane in a couple of days.

Tropical Storm Cristobal is not a threat to Jamaica.
