USVI, Mexico, Barbados and Germany congratulate PM Douglas

ST. KITTS, FEBRUARY 23, 2010 (CUOPM) – United States Virgin Islands Governor, the President of Mexico, the Prime Minister of Barbados and the Chancellor of Germany are among the latest world leaders to congratulate St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas on his recent consecutive fourth term reelection victory.

“Through the results of the elections, the people have expressed confidence in your Government by calling on you for the fourth consecutive time to lead. I feel confident you and your new government will work hard to overcome the common challenges we all face, thereby benefitting not just St. Kitts and Nevis, but the Caribbean region as well,” said United States Virgin Islands Governor, the Hon. John P. de Jong Jr.

Prime Minister of Barbados, the Hon. David Thompson in extending warmest congratulations to Dr. Douglas gave the assurance of his government’s commitment to working “with your administration to further strengthen the longstanding bonds of friendship between our countries and the spirit of cooperation on many issues at the regional and multilateral levels.”

The Barbadian leader expressed confidence that the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis and indeed the entire region will continue to benefit from your wealth of knowledge, experience and leadership skills.”

Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Her Excellency Dr. Angela Merkel, in congratulating Prime Minister Douglas noted that St. Kitts and Nevis and Germany “traditionally enjoy very good and cordial relations and I am confident that we can further develop and intensify those ties.”

“Given the global challenges facing us, I greatly look forward to continuing our fruitful cooperation also at international level, in particular within the United Nations,” said Chancellor Merkel.

President of the United Mexican States, His Excellency Felipe Calderon Hinojosa in his congratulatory message to Prime Minister Douglas said he looks forward to joint initiatives that will lead to a strengthening of the ties of friendship and cooperation between St. Kitts and Nevis and Mexico.

St. Eustatius Member of Parliament of the Netherlands Antilles, the Hon. Reginald C. Zaandam, in extending heartiest congratulations told Dr. Douglas that “as you settle into this new phase of your administration, I wish you all the best as you continue to work on behalf of the people of your twin island Federation.”

“May the Almighty continue to grant your clear vision and guide your footsteps,” said Zaandam.
