UWI Open Campus in St Kitts Opens Book of Condolence for Professor Nettleford

ZIZ News…February 09, 2010 – Books of condolences are being opened across the region for Caribbean nationals to express sympathy following the death of Professor Rex Nettleford, the Jamaican born scholar, teacher and cultural activist.

Olivia Edgecombe-Howell is the Head of the UWI Open Campus on St Kitts, which is where the book of condolence on the island can be signed.

According to Mrs Edgecombe-Howell people in the Federation are welcome to come along and express their thoughts about Professor Nettleford.

“People around the region can come and express their condolences and when we have finished with this we will send it back to Jamaica. The book is being open today and will remain open until the end of February. Everyone, all the students, all the tutors, everybody, should come and sign this book as I know the Professor touched the lives of many in this country.”

Mrs Edgecombe-Howell went on to say: “Professor Nettleford’s service to humanity transcended such common barriers as class, race, nationality and creed. Above all he led the life of a consummate humanitarian, one who was committed to safeguarding the advancement of all persons but especially the most vulnerable among us.”
