VAT consultations continue in St Kitts

ZIZ News…May 6, 2010 – A stakeholders’ national consultation was held today on the Value Added Tax (VAT), which was announced by the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance during the 2010 Budget presentation.

To date, the Government has already made available the White Paper on the VAT and has already made it available for download on several websites.

During his presentation the Finance Minister, Hon Dr Denzil Douglas told the large delegation of stakeholders, both private and public, the VAT is a proportional tax rather than a regressive one.

Prime Minister Douglas also noted that the tax was introduced to provide relief for those consumers more vulnerable.

Following addresses by the head table, stakeholders received the opportunity to air their concerns and views on the VAT, which is to be implemented on November 1st 2010.
