Village Superstars Honor Shervin King With Kings Cup
BASSETERRE — Village Superstars Football Club has launched the Kings Cup 2026, a month-long pre-season tournament honoring the late Shervin King, bringing five St. Kitts clubs together for a series of matches at grounds around the island beginning this month.
The competition, officially known as the King Cup, carries the tagline “Legacy. Passion. Impact.” and is being staged as clubs prepare for the 2026/27 football season.
“Held in honour of the late Shervin King — a player whose passion, commitment, and love for the beautiful game continue to inspire us all,” Village Superstars Football Club said in a statement announcing the tournament. “Join us as clubs come together to celebrate his remarkable legacy while preparing for the 2026/27 football season through exciting pre-season football, community spirit, and unforgettable moments.”
Five clubs are taking part in the pre-season tournament: Village Superstars FC, Cayon FC, Lodge Patriots FC, Molineux FC and Garden Hotspurs FC, known as Spurs. Matches are being played across four venues, including grounds in Garden, Cayon, Lodge and Molineux.
The August schedule opened Sunday with Cayon Rockets facing Lodge Patriots at 4:30 p.m., followed by Village Superstars against Spurs at 6:30 p.m. Action continued Wednesday with Village Superstars taking on Molineaux at 5:30 p.m. and Cayon Rockets meeting Spurs at 7:30 p.m.
The tournament resumes Sunday with Molineaux against Cayon Rockets at 4:30 p.m. and Lodge Patriots versus Spurs at 6:30 p.m., before a third round of fixtures on Aug. 23 pitting Village Superstars against Lodge Patriots at 4:30 p.m. and Molineaux against Spurs at 6:30 p.m. The preseason tournament closes Aug. 26 with Molineaux facing Lodge Patriots at 5:30 p.m. and Village Superstars against Cayon Rockets at 7:30 p.m.
Admission is set at EC$10 per match, with food and a cash bar available at each venue.
Organizers are encouraging residents to turn out in support of the participating clubs as the Kings Cup blends competitive pre-season football with a tribute to King’s legacy in the local game.
