Youth dialogue closes four-part Independence conversation series

BASSETERRE — A discussion on whether young people can still build their futures at home closed out this year’s “Conversations: Reflections & the Way Forward” series on Wednesday, capping four weeks of dialogue tied to Saint Kitts and Nevis’ 43rd year of Independence.

The final episode, titled “The New Caribbean Dream: Can Young People Still Build a Future at Home?”, was hosted by Maurice “EK” Flanders and featured panelists Meshach Alford and Cleon Bradshaw. The three examined the opportunities and challenges facing today’s youth, touching on ambition, migration, economic opportunity, and what it takes for young people to choose a future in Saint Kitts and Nevis and the wider Caribbean rather than abroad.

The episode wrapped a four-part series that ran through the Independence season, giving residents a platform to reflect on the nation’s progress and challenges since 1983 and to look ahead at its direction. Organizers designed the series to encourage participants and viewers alike to consider both how far the Federation has come and where it is headed.

Across its four installments, the series took on a range of themes tied to national identity and development, building toward Wednesday’s discussion on youth and opportunity as the closing conversation of the Independence 43 season.

The series forms part of the broader calendar of activities marking the country’s 43rd anniversary of Independence, which continues through October with events spanning government, sports, arts and community programming.
