CPL’s Organisers Excited to Bring Cricket Back to SKN

(ZIZ News) — Head of Marketing for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), James Wynne, said the organisation is excited to bring tournament matches back to St. Kitts and Nevis.

“We really love it here. Last year was a huge success for CPL and I think the fans really enjoyed all the action. So I’m back this week just getting the final touches to our promotion and marketing campaign leading up to the games which start here on the 30th of June at Warner Park and run all the way through to the 11th of July so loads of action,” he said.

He said they are also pleased to once again be hosting the Celebrity Charity Match at Warner Park.

“We’ve got 11 games signed up. We’ve also got our Celebrity Charity Match back returning again which is fantastic. That was really well supported last year. We had a full house watching stars like Brian Charles Lara and lesser known stars like Piers Morgan and others battling it out which really adds to the whole flavour because you know it’s all about sports entertainment for us and we hope that the people of St. Kitts and Nevis will turn out again,” he said.

Wynne said CPL is confident there will be increased interest from the Kittitian and Nevisian public mainly due to the addition of St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots franchise.

“The islands now have their own team; a team to call their own, which is a huge step forward and that Patriots team is looking really strong. They had a very good draft. A lot of people were taken by surprise by the strategy they used and they ended up with some box office names like ‘Boom Boom Afridi’ and Marlon Samuels, who’s world class any day of the week, as well as some of the local superstars. So it’s shaping up really well and we are really excited to be coming back,” he said.

The first match at St. Kitts’ Warner Park will be played on Tuesday June 30th between the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots and the Jamaica Tallawahs while the CPL Celebrity Match is scheduled for Thursday July 2nd.
