(ZIZ News) — Love was in the air at the St. Christopher Cardin Home as the reigning National Carnival Queen Orngel Erskine organized a pre Valentine concert and luncheon for the residents on Friday.
In welcoming the gathering, Erskine said the event is her way of recognizing the home’s residents and thanking them for their contribution to the Federation.
“As we all know, this is the eve of Valentine’s Day and while many are busy preparing to share with their loved ones and celebrate this weekend of Cupid I thought it was more important for me to dedicate my time to the people who truly are in need of our support,” she said.
She noted that today’s luncheon was “also an opportunity to make a statement. It is a statement that says, loud and clear that our seniors matter. We can all think of a senior who has made a difference in our lives. On behalf of a grateful nation I say to all the residents of the home, ‘thank you’ and we love you.”
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture Christopher Herbert commended Erskine and her team for spending the eve of Valentines with the nation’s seniors.
“It is especially pleasing to see that this activity has blossomed out of a seed that was planted in what we realize is fertile soil of the mind and spirit of our Carnival Queen. I am very impressed and would like to express sincerest commendations to Carnival Queen Erskine as well as her team of beautiful and competent young ladies,” he said.
The residents of the Cardin Home were treated to presentations by past National Carnival Queen contestants as well as traditional dances by folklore groups.
