St. Kitts and Nevis’ Global Changemaker hosted Youth Leadership Workshop

St. Kitts and Nevis’ Global Changemaker Patrice Renee Harris after attending the British Council’s Global Changemakers Global Youth Summit held a youth leadership workshop dubbed “iLead Youth Jab.”

iLead Youth Jab which was funded by the British Council’s Global Changemakers project, catered to persons aged 16-24 and was well received by the thirty participants. Participants were exposed to leadership techniques, creative thinking and project proposal skills.” iLead Youth Jab created a unique experience as the workshop was created and implemented by young persons.

“This youth centered and youth oriented workshop sought to create an experience that encouraged participants to make a positive change where necessary” said the coordinator Patrice Harris.

“The workshop was near perfect ; it provided a comfortable spacious environment that was conducive to my transformation as a leader. The speakers engaged us in bodily moving, mind stimulating and exciting activities.” One participant expressed.

Prior to participating in iLead Youth Jab most participants had little or no experience in leadership and organizations. Based on the feedback received from the participants the coordinator is encouraged that the workshop provided the tools needed to assist the participants in moving forward. Harris noted that iLead Youth Jab is the first of many to come, she is encouraged by the positive feedback received from the participants and facilitators.

This venture could not have been possible without the kind sponsorship of the British Council’s Global Changemakers program. It is her hope that private and government stakeholders would make meaningful contributions to upcoming ventures of this nature. We must recognize that youth are not poster icons. They must be engaged, encouraged and supported both financially and morally.

Thanks is also extended to the Ministry of Youth Empowerment for their continued support, Ms Julie Charles, Mr Curtis Martin, Ms Celia Christopher and Mr Ron Dublin Collins for facilitating sessions and the National Emergency Management Agency for the use of their conference room.

The workshop was held at the NEMA Building on Saturday 9th March 2013 from 9am – 4:30pm.
