WarnerParkCricketStadiumLightsABasseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS) — Thirty-seven hundred lux of light illuminated the Warner Park Cricket Stadium on Tuesday (February 26) as electrical engineers completed the wiring and installation of related equipment for the recently installed outdoor sports lights.

Additionally, the 44×22 foot jumbotron and 8×4 high definition screens as well as the new lights at the Len Harris Cricket Academy, located in Warner Park were also successfully tested.

The tests come as St. Kitts and Nevis prepares for the first day/night match on March 07 featuring the Leeward Islands and Jamaica. The match begins at 3:00 p.m. and is part of a Regional 4-Day Tournament organized by the West Indies Cricket Board.

Minister of Sports the Honourable Glenn Phillip said that he is proud of the work done by local and visiting contractors to upgrade the cricket facilities. He added that the government was excited to welcome the first day/night match next month and expressed confidence that the improved infrastructure will help to attract more regional and international matches.

One targeted tournament is the 2014 Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The local government recently submitted a bid to host CPL matches including the semifinals and final games.

The improved facilities will also accommodate after school activities by the Department of Sports as it seeks to promote healthier lifestyles and positive experiences through sport.
