14th Annual Traditional Musical Instrument Workshop

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 5, 2020 (ZIZ News): The 14th Annual Traditional Musical Instrument Workshop is underway at the Zack’s Historical Cultural Library and Museum at Buckley’s Estate.

The workshop is being held under the theme “Discipline Continues to be the Key.”

Cultural Preservationist, Winston “Zack” Nisbett M.H along with musicians Wilmoth Solis and Givings Isaac teach the students instruments such as the banjo, cuatro, guitar with special emphasis placed on the fife.

Nisbett explained why the fife is in the spotlight this year.

During the first week of the work shop the students have learnt the scales of the fife, breathing techniques and how to make the fife using pvc pipes.

Not ignoring the Covid-19 pandemic, Nisbett explained why he opted to host the workshop amidst the pandemic and shared some of the protocols he has in place at the workshop.The workshop will run for one month with classes Mondays – Fridays at 9am to 1pm.

On Saturday August 22nd there will be a graduation and prize giving ceremony to conclude the workshop.
