Cabinet Approves Duty-Free Concessions for Christmas, Carnival
BASSETERRE — The Federal Cabinet has approved special duty-free concessions for non-commercial importers and travellers from December 1 to January 31, 2027, aimed at easing financial pressure during the Christmas and Carnival seasons.
The concessions apply to goods landed in the Federation during that period.
Under the approved measures, the first 400 pounds of gift packages containing foodstuff will be free of duties and taxes.
Non-commercial imports will also qualify for a duty-free allowance of EC$675, or US$250. The allowance will be deducted from the cost, insurance and freight (CIF) value of the goods. CIF is the total of what the goods cost, plus the cost of insuring and shipping them to St. Kitts and Nevis.
Acting Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley welcomed the decision. He said the measures are meant to help people celebrate with family and community without facing unnecessary financial pressure.
The concessions will complement the VAT reduction days already announced for December 11 and December 19.
