17th Annual National Consultation on the Economy on Thursday

Basseterre, St. Kitts (CUOPM) — Public and private sector officials, representatives of several non-governmental organisations and students from the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) will meet on Thursday 2nd October for the 17th Annual National Consultation on the Economy.

The exercise in good governance, transparency and accountability by the ruling St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Administration is in preparation for the presentation of the 2015 Budget in December.

This year’s consultation is being held under the theme “Keeping the Edge – Energizing Growth and Human Development.”

The Ministry of Finance said it will be held from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and Royal Beach Casino.

During the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, the Invocation will be said by Rev. Joyce Rohan of the St. Kitts Christian Council and words of welcome from the Financial Secretary, Mrs. Hilary Hazel.

Remarks will also be delivered by Mr. Damion Hobson, President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce; Sir K. Dwight Venner, Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB); the Hon. Marcella Liburd, the Federation’s Minister of Health, Social Services, Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs; the Hon. Vance Amory, Premier of Nevis and the Feature Address by the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of St. Kitts and Nevis.

During the Working Sessions, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Services, Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs, Ms. Sharon Rattan will present on “Building up Our Human Capital through Social Reform and Skills Development.”

Mr. Fitzroy Wilkin of the Ministry of Education and Information presents on Skills.

A presentation on “Public Private Partnership – An Option for Infrastructure Development,” will be done by Dr. Justin Ram of the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

“Key Elements for Energy Security in St. Kitts and Nevis” will be presented by Mr. Cartwright Farrell of the St. Kitts Electricity Company Ltd (SKELEC).

Financial Secretary, Mrs. Hilary Hazel will make a presentation on “Recent Economic Performance and Medium-Term Outlook.”

During lunch, a representative of Speed Tech Energy will make a presentation on “Renewable Energy – Practical Applications.”
