19 time champions Rams Hitters fails to make playoffs

ZIZ Sports…Aug 17 2012 — The 2012 SKABA season has definitely been a season of firsts. First ever 6 foot game clock, first ever glass backboard and shot clock and more. However another first, albeit a dubious first, for the most decorated sports team in St. Kitts-Nevis the Rams Hitters, is their failure to make it to the SKABA Playoffs.

Since the Premier division was introduced over a decade ago the RAMS Hitters have never been absent from the post season. In fact the team has been featured in the finals for all but maybe 2 or 3 finals series in the last decade and more . Thus was the dominance of the team over the years.

However the Hitters has shown a chink in their armour. The exodus of former National Player Shawn ‘Shabba” Forbes , guard Ansel Revan and SKABA Legend Trevor “Marty” Huggins to other teams have left an immeasurable void in the multi-time championship team. They also lost guard Jermaine Gumbs to Ghaut Bucs and center Sylvester “Buzz” Whyte to Molyneaux . Even with the absence of 5 integral players the Market Street based Hitters still managed to field a very formidable 12 man squad. However based on their season record it suggests that the team may have more quantity than quality.

In a facebook post the Hitters Basketball Club had this to say, ” To all the fans of the Rams Hitters this year 2012 was a year when we started the rebuilding process of our team as a matter of fact we lost some eight (8) players from our 2011 team as most fan will no we lost Shabba Forbes in 2011, never the less we gave a good account of ourselves in the league this year with the new additions to our team .Rams Hitters have won 19 championships since our senior team started playing in 1982 and is determined to continue our winning ways in 2013.

We want to thank all 0ur loyal fans and supporters for their support in the past and look forward for their continued support in the future. To our great sponsor Rams we could not of done it without your continued sponsorship since 1995 and we are thankful for that.”

The SKABA Premier Division playoffs are down to 4 teams including the Horsford’s Ghetto Roots, Challengers Exodus, Fig Tree Dirt Revellers and Ghuat Bucs.
