3 charged for not wearing masks

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 30, 2020 (ZIZ News): The first 3 persons have been arrested and charged for failure to wear a mask in public.

Speaking at the NEOC Covid 19 Daily Briefing on Thursday, Divisional Commander of Division “A” Superintendent Cromwell Henry said the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force will be enforcing the emergency protocols as it relates to the wearing of masks.

“ For the past 24 hours, the police have made four arrests of persons in breach of the emergency regulations, however what is different today is that three of those arrests were for persons who were not wearing masks…All four persons were arrested and charged.”

Supt. Henry said the police will continue to make appeals for persons to obey all the provisions of the emergency regulations.

“We believe that the public is sufficiently sensitized about the wearing of masks and so the time has come for enforcement. We will continue to make appeals to adhere to all the provisions of the emergency regulations, particularly the social and physical distancing protocols, the hygiene protocols, the wearing of masks and the shelter in place order.”

Supt. Henry said to date 101 persons have been charged for offences related to the breaking of laws associated with the ongoing state of emergency.
