3rd Annual Sports Museum Week Commences Next Week

Sports Page—Friday 5th July 2013–The 3rd annual sports museum week will commence on Monday 8th and run until Friday 12th July.

Communications Officer in the Ministry of Social Development, Curtis Morton confirmed that the usual tributes will be paid to some of the present and past sporting heroes on the island.

The week will be officially opened during a brief ceremony on Monday 8th at the Sports museum starting at 9 am. Representatives of the Ministry of Sports will address the gathering and there is expected to be the symbolic retiring of the jersey and boots formerly worn by the late Tesril Nisbett. The items will then be kept as part of the treasured property of the Sports Museum.

The featured sports men and women are expected to be at the Sports Museum on designated days to meet and greet school children from the various schools and members of the general public between 9 to 10 am during the course of the week.

The schedule is as follows:

Monday 8th July—Ronald Powell; Clifford Walwyn; Raphael Wallace. Opening ceremony at 9 am-featuring brief addresses from officials within the Ministry of Sports.

Tuesday 9th July— Tanika Liburd, Meritzer Williams and Tamika Wells (Tamika has won several gold medals at the Special Olympics for her outstanding swimming)

Wednesday 10th July— Natalie Nisbett–Sutton; Shantel Isles; Masefield Nisbett; Winston Crooke

Thursday 11th July—Colin Lazarus; Mickey Mills and Virgil Browne

Friday 12th July–A day dedicated to the memory of deceased sporting stars. Two such individuals are: Tesril Nisbett and Cicely Grell-Hull.

This day will also be a day for the receiving of pictures; general information on local sporting heroes and artefacts for the Sports Museum.

The honourees, who are available on island, will be present at the Sports Museum on the scheduled days and members of the general public and school children, will be able to meet with them first hand, interact with them and get autographs etc.

The general public is cordially invited to be a part of this very exciting week.
