4 Out Of 5 Missing Detainees Located

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 27, 2023 (ZIZ Newsroom): The police have located 4 Cameroonian detainees out of 5 who were on the run on Thursday.

Police said on Wednesday, nine of the 14 Cameroon nationals escaped from the detention facility on St. Kitts.

Four were recaptured by Thursday morning and four more were located on Thursday evening. The 8 are all Cameroon nationals.  The one still unaccounted for is Nicolas Santana Areche of The Dominican Republic.

On March 28th, the passengers were rescued after their boat capsized a few miles out from Conaree, St. Kitts after leaving Antigua and Barbuda.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Coast Guard and other vessels responded to a call for help at sea. Three persons died before being rescued.

The passengers were transported to St. Kitts; and those who survived were provided with medical and psychological care; and detained at a government facility pending repatriation to Antigua and Barbuda.

Antigua and Barbuda has now withdrawn this offer, cancelling the pending arrangement.

According to the police, the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis continues to pursue workable and diplomatic solutions.

The public is urged to assist by calling the nearest police station if they know the whereabouts of the missing detainee.
