6 persons recover from COVID-19

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 28, 2020 (ZIZ News): Two more persons have recovered from Covid-19, bringing the total number of recovered persons in the federation to 6.

This was announced by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws who delivered the situation report at the NEOC Daily Covid19 briefing on Wednesday.

“6 confirmed cases have recovered. To date, we have zero deaths. Currently, 5 persons are quarantined in a government facility while 55 persons are quarantined at home. 9 persons remain in isolation while 688 persons have been released from quarantine.”

Dr. Laws said while there is no known cure for COVID-19, there are steps that everyone can take to help support their natural defenses against viruses like this one.

“The body’s immune system is what helps to fight off these pathogens. There are a number of ways in which you can support your own immune system to make it as strong and effective as possible, including the following: eat more fruits and vegetables and leafy greens…aim to consume at least 3 servings of fruits and vegetables daily. Number two: get more sleep.”

She also spoke of the benefits of direct sunlight.

“Sunshine creates vitamin D. Our body creates vitamin D from direct sunlight on our skin when we are outdoors. Studies show that Vitamin D activates the cells which help to fight infection. Aim to get one to two hours of direct sunlight per day to get your fill of Vitamin D.”

Dr. Laws also made mention of practicing good hygiene, reducing stress levels, and adopting a positive attitude.

To date, 15 persons tested positive for Covid-19 with 6 fully recovered. 1 person is showing symptoms of the virus, while the others are symptom-free and recovering.
