St. Kitts Teachers Celebrate Big Week

BASSETERRE: On Sunday, October 5th, 2025, the St. Kitts Teachers’ Union (SKTU) commenced Teachers’ Week with a moving church service at the Pentecostal Church of God on Boone Avenue, Basseterre, starting at 8:00 AM. The service brought together educators, union members, and community supporters to reflect on the vital role of teachers in shaping the nation’s future. This spiritual gathering underscored the alignment of faith and education, renewing the teaching community’s strength and commitment to their noble calling.

Under the powerful theme “Valuing Teachers’ Voices,” Teachers’ Week 2025, spanning October 4th to October 10th, is a vibrant celebration of educators’ dedication and impact. The SKTU has curated a dynamic program to honor teachers as architects of progress and champions of social justice, while fostering community engagement and solidarity. The week’s events are designed to uplift educators, amplify their voices, and inspire collective support for their critical role in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Week-Long Schedule of Events

  • Saturday, October 4th: The week began with a stirring Address to the Nation by the SKTU President, emphasizing teachers’ indispensable role in national development and advocating for their recognition as key drivers of social change.

  • Sunday, October 5th: The church service at the Pentecostal Church of God provided a moment of spiritual renewal, uniting educators in faith and purpose.

  • Monday, October 6th – Teachers Appreciation Day: Schools across St. Kitts will host Special General Assemblies, with the SKTU distributing tokens of appreciation. The public, including parents and students, is encouraged to honor both current and former teachers for their contributions to the nation’s growth.

  • Tuesday, October 7th: A heartfelt ceremony at the Solid Waste Conference Room will celebrate retired teachers for their foundational contributions and welcome new teachers as the next generation of educators.

  • Wednesday, October 8th: The 1st Form Scholarship Ceremony will highlight the SKTU’s commitment to youth empowerment, followed by the Youth Beat Programme on Freedom Radio, amplifying young voices in the education conversation.

  • Thursday, October 9th: A panel discussion titled “Valuing Teachers’ Voices” will air at 6:00 PM on Freedom Radio 106.5 FM, offering a platform for educators to share insights and advocate for their rights and dignity.

  • Friday, October 10th: The week will conclude with a lively Games Night at Bird Rock Basketball Court, featuring karaoke, basketball, a community BBQ, and a domino competition, fostering camaraderie and celebration among union members and the community.
