Government Aids Bar Relocation; Beach Access Open
BASSETERRE: The government of St. Kitts and Nevis says it is continuing to work with bar operators at South Friars Bay as plans move forward for a major tourism development in the area.
Officials have reiterated that the businesses, including Godfather Bar, Discovery Bar and Shipwreck Bar and Grill, will need to relocate by April 7th.
But the process has been guided by ongoing engagement, with efforts made over the past several months to support a smooth transition.
The Government has identified alternative locations for the operators, including sites along the Frigate Bay Strip and at Cockleshell Bay.
A statement issued over the weekend noted that support is available to help businesses relocate and continue operating.
Officials also emphasised that public access to South Friars Bay beach will be maintained, with plans for a new permanent access road as part of the development.
They add that the broader goal is to ensure that small businesses can continue to thrive, even as larger investments take shape in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Construction work is expected to begin shortly after the April deadline, marking the next phase of development in the area.
